Credentialing Basics
15 questionsHolistic health credentialing is the process by which an independent professional standards board reviews and verifies that a practitioner meets defined criteria for ethics, training, and scope of practice — then formally recognizes their professional standing by issuing a credential designation.
A certification is issued by a training organization upon completing their program. A credential is issued by an independent professional standards board after reviewing your overall qualifications, practice record, and ethical standing — regardless of where you trained.
A license is a government-issued legal permission to practice a regulated profession. A credential is voluntary — issued by an independent professional standards board — and signals commitment to professional ethics and practice standards that exceed any legal minimum.
Holistic health is largely unregulated — clients have no government mechanism to distinguish trained, ethical practitioners from unvetted providers. A credential fills that gap by independently verifying qualifications and holding practitioners accountable to a published code of ethics.
A professional standards board is an independent organization that sets, upholds, and enforces the professional practice standards for a given field — independently of training providers, employers, or government regulation.
ICONIC Board is an independent professional standards board. It reviews practitioner applications, issues four credential tiers (IBC-HHA™ through IBC-HHD™), maintains a public directory of credentialed practitioners, and upholds the Code of Ethics all credential holders agree to follow.
Your training school certifies course completion. ICONIC Board independently evaluates your overall professional standing — education, practice record, ethics, and scope — and issues a credential not tied to any single training provider.
ICONIC Board credentials are modality-neutral — covering all holistic health disciplines: Nutrition, Functional Medicine, Health Coaching, Energy Healing, Herbalism, Mind-Body Practices, Movement Therapy, Traditional Healing, and more. Specialists and multi-modality practitioners both qualify. Browse all modalities →
ICONIC Board operates as an independent professional standards body with published ethics standards, transparent application criteria, a public practitioner directory, and an independent review process. It operates its own accreditation program for holistic health schools and training providers.
Benefits include: directory listing, verified credential badge, professional credibility with clients and employers, insurance program eligibility, continuing education access, use of IBC designations after your name, and membership in a professional peer community.
Yes, increasingly so. Health consumers today are more educated and cautious, particularly for health-related services. Many clients specifically search for credentialed practitioners and verify credentials before booking. ICONIC Board credentials are publicly verifiable at iconicboard.health/credential-verify.
In most jurisdictions, yes — holistic health is largely unregulated. But practicing without a credential means clients have no independent way to assess your professional standing, which increasingly affects access to directories, employer programs, insurance reimbursement, and premium positioning.
The ICONIC Board Practitioner Directory is a publicly searchable database of all currently active credential holders. Clients use it to find and verify practitioners. Directory listing is included with all active ICONIC Board credentials — no separate application or fee required.
Verification is instant and publicly accessible at iconicboard.health/credential-verify. Anyone can enter a practitioner's name or credential number to immediately see their credential tier, issuance date, expiration date, and current standing.
Application Process
6 questionsGraduates of ICONIC-accredited schools and training programs receive an Accredited Program Code from their institution. Entering this code during your application automatically verifies your training program, streamlining the credential application process.
If you completed your training at an ICONIC-accredited school, contact your program director for your code. If your school is not yet accredited, you can still apply — you'll complete the standard verification process instead.
Applications are submitted through the online application form at /apply. The form walks you through a five-step process: selecting your credential tier, entering your personal and professional details, documenting your education and training, providing your practice history, and submitting for review.
No payment is required at application time. Fees are collected only after your application is reviewed and approved.
Required documentation varies by tier, but generally includes:
- Proof of relevant education or training (diplomas, certificates, transcripts)
- Documentation of supervised practice hours or client contact hours
- For IBC-HHD™: doctoral degree verification and a case study (minimum 500 words)
- Mentor information (if applicable to your tier)
All documents can be uploaded directly in the online application form. Acceptable file types are PDF, JPG, PNG, and WebP (5MB max per file).
Standard review time is 5–7 business days from the date of submission. Complex applications (particularly IBC-HHD™ with doctoral verification) may take up to 10 business days.
You will receive an email confirmation immediately after submission, and a follow-up email once your review is complete — whether approved, conditionally approved, or requiring additional information.
Here's what to expect after you submit:
- Confirmation email — sent immediately with your application ID
- Document review — our credentialing team verifies your education and practice documentation
- Decision email — approval, conditional approval, or request for additional information within 5–7 business days
- Credential issuance — upon approval, your digital credential, certificate, and QR verification badge are issued
- Directory listing — your profile is added to the public practitioner directory
No — each application is for a single tier. We recommend applying for the highest tier you currently qualify for. If your application is approved and you later meet the requirements for a higher tier, you can apply for an upgrade without re-submitting your full history.
If you're unsure which tier is right for you, the Certification Tiers page includes a detailed comparison, and our support team is happy to advise.
Credential Tiers
6 questionsICONIC Board's sequential credentials represent progressive levels of practice mastery:
| Credential | Level | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| IBC-HHA™ | Associate | Practitioners building their foundation — completing formal training with supervised practice |
| IBC-HHP™ | Professional | Established professionals with documented practice hours and client experience |
| IBC-HHE™ | Expert | Senior practitioners with extensive experience, mentor qualifications, and advanced specializations |
| IBC-HHD™ | Doctorate | Doctoral-level practitioners who hold an advanced degree and have contributed to the field |
Each tier has specific eligibility requirements for education, practice hours, and experience. See the full Certification Tiers page for detailed requirements.
The right tier depends on your education, years of practice, and client contact hours. As a general guide:
- IBC-HHA™ — You've completed a recognized training program and are building supervised practice hours
- IBC-HHP™ — You have 2+ years of active practice and documented client hours in holistic health
- IBC-HHE™ — You have 5+ years of practice, mentorship experience, and advanced specializations
- IBC-HHD™ — You hold a doctoral degree in a health-related field and have made contributions to holistic health education or research
Yes, you can apply directly for any tier you qualify for. There's no requirement to hold a lower tier before applying for a higher one. Each tier is assessed independently based on your education, training, and practice history at the time of application.
For example, a practitioner with 8 years of clinical experience and a master's degree can apply directly for IBC-HHE™ without first holding IBC-HHA™ or IBC-HHP™.
Yes. As you advance in your career, you can apply to upgrade to a higher credential tier. The upgrade process is streamlined — your existing file is on record, and you'll only need to submit documentation of your new qualifications and practice history since your last application.
Upgrades are processed at the same speed as new applications (5–7 business days). Founding member pricing does not apply to upgrades; renewal pricing applies.
No. ICONIC Board credentials practice standards — it is complementary to your existing education credentials, not a replacement for them.
Your existing education-based certifications document your training program. ICONIC Board documents the breadth and standards of your actual practice across modalities. The two serve different purposes and many practitioners hold both.
ICONIC Board is built for multi-modality holistic practice — not a single-discipline certification. The credentialing framework covers practice standards across a wide range of specialties, including:
- Nutrition & Functional Medicine
- Human Design & Gene Keys
- Energy Healing (Reiki, EFT, Biofield)
- Mind-Body Practices (meditation, breathwork, somatic)
- Herbal & Plant Medicine
- Integrative & Health Coaching
- Spiritual Wellness & Chaplaincy
- Movement Therapy (yoga, qigong, tai chi)
- Traditional & Indigenous Healing Modalities
If your specialty is not listed above, contact us — the credential framework is designed to be inclusive of the full spectrum of evidence-informed holistic practice.
Eligibility
5 questionsNo. ICONIC Board credentials are open to all qualified holistic health practitioners regardless of where they trained. However, graduates of ICONIC-accredited programs benefit from a streamlined application process through their school's Accredited Program Code.
Prerequisites are evaluated holistically, but here are the core requirements by tier:
- IBC-HHA™ (Associate) — Completion of a recognized holistic health training program; supervised practice underway or recently completed
- IBC-HHP™ (Professional) — Recognized training program + documented client contact hours in active practice
- IBC-HHE™ (Expert) — Significant practice history, advanced training, demonstrated mentorship or leadership in the field
- IBC-HHD™ (Doctorate) — Doctoral-level degree in a health-related discipline + substantial contribution to the field
Full requirements, including specific hour thresholds, are detailed on each credential page.
No — IHDS certification is not required. The ICONIC Board credentials holistic health practitioners across a broad range of disciplines, not exclusively Human Design practitioners.
IHDS certification (or equivalent training from a recognized Human Design school) is a recognized and respected pathway for practitioners who integrate HD methodology into their holistic health practice. If you hold IHDS certification, it will be recognized as valid educational documentation for relevant tiers.
A wide range of training and education qualifies, including:
If your training isn't listed above, submit your documentation and our team will assess it. We evaluate programs based on curriculum rigor, training hours, and supervision requirements.
Practice requirements vary by tier. IBC-HHA™ (Associate) can be obtained while building supervised practice, so there's no minimum years of independent practice required. Higher tiers require documented practice history and client contact hours.
Rather than hard "years of experience" minimums, ICONIC Board evaluates the quality and documentation of your practice — including client contact hours, supervision, mentorship, and specialization depth.
Pricing & Renewal
5 questionsFounding member pricing is a limited-time reduced rate available to the first 50 applicants per tier. Founding members lock in this rate for their initial credential fee — annual renewal fees are set at a lower level as well.
| Credential | Founding Member | Standard | Annual Renewal |
|---|---|---|---|
| IBC-HHA™ | $195 | $245 | Reduced rate |
| IBC-HHP™ | $295 | $349 | Reduced rate |
| IBC-HHE™ | $395 | $449 | Reduced rate |
| IBC-HHD™ | $495 | $495 | Reduced rate |
ICONIC Board credentials are valid for one year from the date of issuance. Before your renewal date, you will receive a reminder email with renewal instructions.
Renewal requires:
- Confirmation that your practice is active and in good standing
- Payment of the annual renewal fee (founders pay the reduced founding member renewal rate)
- Acknowledgment of the ICONIC Board Code of Professional Conduct
Renewal takes effect immediately upon completion and resets your credential validity for another 12 months.
If your credential lapses without renewal:
- Your profile is temporarily deactivated in the public directory
- Your credential verification link and QR badge will show as expired
- You may no longer use your ICONIC credential designation (e.g., IBC-HHA™, IBC-HHP™) in professional materials
You have a 90-day grace period to renew without a late fee. After 90 days, a reinstatement fee applies. After 12 months of lapse, a new full application is required.
Payment is collected in full at the time of credential issuance (after your application is approved). At this time, installment payment plans are not available through the standard application process.
If your school or organization is an ICONIC Board Accredited Institution, check with them — some accredited schools offer tuition bundles that include the ICONIC credential fee.
ICONIC Board membership includes insurance pathway resources to help you navigate the credentialing process with carriers:
- Superbill templates formatted for holistic health services
- CAQH ProView setup and profile guidance
- Carrier-specific credentialing guides
- NPI registration walkthrough
Reimbursement outcomes depend on your specific modality, your state, and the individual carrier's policies. ICONIC Board does not guarantee insurance acceptance or reimbursement. We provide clear steps and tools to navigate a process that varies by situation — many practitioners find this guidance significantly reduces the time and cost of the credentialing process.
For a deeper dive into insurance credentialing, see our CAQH & Insurance Credentialing Guide.
Directory & Verification
4 questionsThe practitioner directory is a publicly searchable listing of all currently credentialed ICONIC Board practitioners. It's designed so prospective clients can find and verify practitioners in their area.
Your listing includes your name, credential tier, location, specializations, and a public verification link. You can manage your listing details through your practitioner dashboard after credentialing.
Yes — this is a core feature of ICONIC Board credentialing. Every credentialed practitioner receives a unique verification URL and QR code. When a client scans your QR badge or visits your verification link, they see your name, credential tier, issue date, and current status (active / expired).
This transparency is what distinguishes an ICONIC credential from a self-reported designation. Clients can always confirm your credential is current and legitimate, with no middleman or subscription required on their end.
The QR badge is a digital image (PNG/SVG) containing your unique credential verification QR code. When scanned with any smartphone camera, it opens your live credential verification page showing your name, tier, and current credential status.
You can use your QR badge on:
- Your website or bio page
- Business cards and printed materials
- Email signatures
- Session intake forms and client-facing documents
- Social media profiles (as a pinned post or story highlight)
Your badge is available for download from your practitioner dashboard immediately after credentialing.
You can update your directory profile at any time through your practitioner dashboard. This includes your bio, location, specializations, website, and contact information.
Changes go live in the public directory within a few hours of submission. Core credential information (name, tier, issue date) is set by ICONIC Board and cannot be self-edited.
School Accreditation
4 questionsSchools and training programs can apply for ICONIC Board accreditation through the /accreditation page. The process involves a three-step review:
- Step 1: Submit your school's program documentation, curriculum overview, and faculty credentials
- Step 2: Standards review — ICONIC Board evaluates your program against the 6-domain accreditation framework
- Step 3: Accreditation decision and listing in the ICONIC Board accredited schools directory
ICONIC Board offers two institutional accreditation tiers:
| Tier | Annual Fee | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Accreditation | $249/yr | Smaller programs and specialty schools meeting core standards |
| Premium Accreditation | $499/yr | Full-curriculum schools meeting enhanced standards across all 6 domains |
Both tiers include directory listing, an accreditation seal, and recognition in ICONIC Board communications. Premium accreditation also includes advanced marketing features and priority listing for graduates in the practitioner directory.
The accreditation review process typically takes 2–4 weeks from submission of complete documentation. Complex programs with multiple disciplines or large faculty may take up to 6 weeks.
You'll receive updates at each stage of the review, and our accreditation team is available to answer questions throughout the process.
ICONIC Board accreditation signals to prospective students that your program meets professional standards recognized by a credentialing body. Key benefits include:
- Your program is listed as a recognized pathway for ICONIC Board credential eligibility
- Graduates from accredited programs receive a streamlined application process
- Use of the ICONIC Board Accredited Program seal in your marketing materials
- Featured listing in the accredited schools directory on iconic.health
- Annual review provides third-party validation of your curriculum quality
Continuing Education
3 questionsNo — continuing education is not required for ICONIC Board credential renewal. This is a deliberate and meaningful distinction from other credentialing bodies that mandate annual CE hours as a condition of renewal.
ICONIC Board believes that professional excellence is demonstrated through verified practice and conduct — not through checkboxes. CE is encouraged and supported, but it is never a gate to maintaining your credential.
While CE is optional, ICONIC Board provides resources to support ongoing professional development:
- Access to ICONIC Board's curated CE resource library (coming soon)
- Partner CE programs offered through ICONIC Board Accredited Schools
- CE hours logged in your dashboard can be displayed on your public practitioner profile as a signal of ongoing professional investment
- Annual practitioner forums and webinars on industry developments
Your practitioner dashboard includes a CE tracking section where you can log completed courses, workshops, and training events. Simply add the activity name, provider, date, and hours.
Logged CE hours are visible on your public directory profile as an optional achievement display. CE from ICONIC Board Accredited Schools is automatically recognized when submitted.
Partner Program
3 questionsOrganizations can apply for partner status through the /partners page. Partner status is open to businesses, training programs, platforms, and service providers that serve holistic health practitioners.
The application is straightforward — provide your organization details, the type of services you offer practitioners, and select your partner tier. Approved partners are listed in the public partner directory.
The partner program has three tiers:
| Tier | Annual Fee | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Associate Partner | $49/yr | Small businesses and individual service providers |
| Professional Partner | $99/yr | Established organizations with practitioner-facing products or services |
| Premier Partner | $199/yr | Large organizations, platforms, and training providers seeking featured placement |
All tiers include directory listing and use of the "ICONIC Board Verified Partner" badge. Higher tiers include additional promotional features and communication to our practitioner community.
All partners receive:
- Listing in the public ICONIC Board Partner Directory
- Use of the "Verified Partner" digital badge for your website and marketing
- Inclusion in ICONIC Board practitioner communications (when relevant)
- Networking within the ICONIC Board professional community
Professional and Premier partners also receive featured placement in the directory and inclusion in practitioner-facing newsletters. Premier partners additionally receive a spotlight feature in ICONIC Board's content channels and priority placement at professional events.
Career & Business
5 questionsYes. An ICONIC Board credential gives prospective clients a trusted third-party verification of your training and ethical standing. Practitioners consistently report higher close rates, especially for clients who are comparison shopping or have been burned by unqualified practitioners before.
Beyond individual client trust, directory visibility and your scannable QR badge create ongoing passive discovery and conversion opportunities.
The most effective approach is consistent display of your credential abbreviation, QR badge, and a clear explanation of what ICONIC Board credentialing means in terms of training, ethics, and standards. Your website, social profiles, intake forms, and email signature are all high-impact placement points.
Credentialing creates the conditions for higher rates by establishing a verified, standardized measure of professional quality that clients can understand without industry knowledge. The credential functions as a market signal that reduces risk in the client's mind — and clients pay more when perceived risk is lower.
Yes — integrative clinics, wellness centers, and corporate wellness programs strongly prefer credentialed practitioners. Credentialing solves a genuine operational problem: clinics need a defensible, consistent way to vet holistic practitioners without deep domain expertise in every modality they hire for.
ICONIC Board credentialing has a compound effect on professional reputation. It creates immediate credibility signals through the credential abbreviation and QR badge, positions you within a verified professional network, and provides ongoing ethical accountability through the Code of Ethics requirement.
Modalities
5 questionsICONIC Board credentials span eight primary domains: Holistic Health Arts, Energy Medicine, Mind-Body Integration, Nutrition & Lifestyle Medicine, Somatic Therapies, Herbal & Plant Medicine, Integrative Coaching, and Spiritual & Contemplative Practices. Each domain contains dozens of individual modalities.
Yes. ICONIC Board uses a multi-domain credential architecture designed for practitioners who work across modality lines — which describes the majority of holistic health professionals. After your primary credential is established, additional domain credentials can be added with streamlined applications and reduced fees.
Most modalities fall within one of ICONIC Board's eight domains even if not explicitly named in the framework. If your practice area isn't clearly covered, the framework review process evaluates it against ICONIC Board's evidence-informed, ethics-grounded, and client-safety-focused criteria. Emerging and less common practices can be accommodated.
The ICONIC Board Credentialing Standards Committee reviews the framework annually. New modality additions are driven by practitioner community nominations, credentialing board review, evidence base assessment, and safety evaluation. Nominated modalities go through a full review cycle before formal recognition.
A modality pathway is a structured credentialing track for a specific practice area within an ICONIC Board domain. Each pathway defines the minimum training hours, core competency areas, continuing education requirements, and scope-of-practice guidance for that modality — providing a clear map from training to credential.
Practitioner Portal
5 questionsiconic.pro is the ICONIC Board practitioner portal — the private, secure workspace where credentialed practitioners manage credentials, access verification assets, review their public directory profile, and monitor credential activity. It's exclusively available to credentialed practitioners; access is provisioned automatically when your application is approved.
The portal is your complete credential management workspace. Key capabilities include: viewing and renewing credentials, downloading your QR verification badge, editing your public directory profile, monitoring verification activity, and generating official credential letters for institutional applications.
Log in to iconic.pro and go to the Credentials section. You'll see all active credentials with tier, issue date, renewal deadline, and current status. Email reminders are sent at 90, 60, and 30 days before expiration. For applicants still under review, a status tracker in the portal shows each review stage.
Yes — with important privacy limits. Your verification activity log shows when and how your credential was verified (date, method, general region) but does not identify individual verifiers. When a verification comes from a registered ICONIC Board institutional partner, the partner's name is shown.
Log in to iconic.pro, navigate to Directory Profile, and edit any field. Changes publish in real time — there is no review queue for profile edits. You can update your bio, specializations, service area, contact links, profile photo, and more. Keeping your profile current directly improves how you appear in directory searches.
