Your Path to Insurance Panels

Your ICONIC Board credential (IBC-HHA™, IBC-HHP™, IBC-HHE™, or IBC-HHD™) is recognized by insurance payers as a professional practice standard. This guide walks you through the full credentialing journey — from registering for a free NPI number, to setting up CAQH ProView, to joining the ASH network that unlocks access to major insurance plans.

State Licensure Still Required Your ICONIC Board credential is the professional standards and ethics layer for your practice. It does not replace state licenses or certifications required by your specific modality and state law. Both are needed for insurance panel participation.

1

Get Your NPI Number

An NPI (National Provider Identifier) is a free 10-digit number issued by CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) that identifies you as a healthcare provider. It's required for insurance billing, superbills, and CAQH registration. Get this before starting CAQH.

Your NPI is free and permanent It never expires and stays with you for life, regardless of where you practice. Apply once, use forever.
Go to the NPPES website
Visit nppes.cms.hhs.gov and click "Apply for an NPI".
Select Type 1 (Individual)
Type 1 is for individual practitioners. Type 2 is for organizations. Select Type 1 – Individual.
Fill in your provider information
You'll need:
  • Full legal name and contact information
  • Practice location address
  • Taxonomy code — pick the closest match to your primary modality (e.g., 1H 175F00000X – Health & Wellness Coach, 207RH0003X – Holistic Medicine, 133V00000X – Dietitian/Nutritionist)
  • SSN or ITIN (kept private)
Submit your application
After submitting, your NPI is typically issued within 1–10 business days. You'll receive a confirmation email with your NPI number.
Save your NPI number
Write it down. You'll enter it on every CAQH application, insurance panel application, and superbill going forward.

What is CAQH ProView?

CAQH ProView is the industry-standard universal provider data repository. Instead of completing separate credentialing applications for every insurance company, you build one profile — and payers pull your data from it directly.

Without CAQHWith CAQH ProView
Separate application per payerOne profile, all payers
Re-enter same data repeatedlyPayers pull directly from CAQH
Manual document submissionsCentralized document storage
No standard formatIndustry-standard credentialing format
CAQH is the gateway to ASH — and through ASH, to major plans American Specialty Health (ASH) uses CAQH ProView as the basis for its credentialing. ASH gates access to Aetna, Cigna, Anthem BCBS, and 50+ plans.
Re-attest every 120 days CAQH requires you to log in and re-attest (confirm your information is current) every 120 days. Set a calendar reminder. Failure to attest makes your profile inactive — payers lose access.

3

Set Up Your CAQH ProView Profile

Go to proview.caqh.org to register (or log in to update an existing profile). Budget 1–2 hours for initial setup. Have your NPI number, license documents, malpractice insurance certificate, and ICONIC Board certificate PDF ready.

Register or log in at proview.caqh.org
New providers: click "Register Here". You'll need your NPI to register. Existing providers: log in and click "Update Profile".
Complete the Personal Information section
Name, contact info, date of birth. Straightforward — just fill in what you're asked.
Add education and training history
All post-secondary education, professional training programs, and any residencies. Include dates and institutions. More is better — leave nothing out.
Add your work history
All practice experience for the past 10 years. Include gaps — explain them if any. This is standard for all provider credentialing.
Add malpractice insurance
Upload your malpractice certificate. ICONIC Board recommends a minimum of $1M/$3M coverage (per occurrence / aggregate). Most payers require this.
Add your state license(s)
Enter all active state licenses/certifications for your modalities. Include license number, issuing state, issue date, and expiration date. Upload documents where prompted.
Attest and submit
Review everything, then click Attest to confirm your information is complete and accurate. This activates your profile for payer access.

Adding Your ICONIC Board Credential

CAQH's Certifications and Board Certification sections support free-text fields — ICONIC credentials can be listed even if they don't appear in a dropdown yet.

IBC-HHA™
ICONIC Board Certified Holistic Health Associate
IBC-HHP™
ICONIC Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner
IBC-HHE™
ICONIC Board Certified Holistic Health Educator
IBC-HHD™
ICONIC Board Certified Holistic Health Doctorate
Go to the Certifications section in CAQH
In your CAQH ProView profile, navigate to Professional Certifications or Board Certification.
Select "Other" if ICONIC Board isn't in the dropdown
If ICONIC Board of Holistic Health doesn't appear as a listed certifying body, choose "Other" from the dropdown and type the organization name in the free-text field.
Enter your credential details
  • Certifying Organization: ICONIC Board of Holistic Health
  • Credential Type: Your designation (e.g., IBC-HHP™ — ICONIC Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner)
  • Certificate Number: Your certificate number (on your ICONIC Board certificate)
  • Issue Date: Date your credential was awarded
  • Expiration Date: Your renewal date (2 years from award)
Upload your certificate PDF
Attach your official ICONIC Board certificate as a PDF in the document upload section. This is the certificate you received when your credential was approved. If you need a copy, download it from your ICONIC Board dashboard.
Request ICONIC Board be added to CAQH's dropdown If ICONIC Board isn't in the certifying body dropdown, you can email CAQH support to request it be added. This is an informal process — just send a brief email identifying the organization. Reach CAQH at proview.caqh.org via live chat or call 888-599-1771.

5

Authorize Payers in CAQH

After completing and attesting your profile, you must explicitly grant payer organizations access to your data. This is called "authorization" — without it, payers cannot retrieve your information for credentialing.

Navigate to the "Authorize" section
In your CAQH ProView dashboard, click on Authorize Organizations (also called the Payer Access or Authorization tab).
Search for and authorize ASH
Search for American Specialty Health (ASH) and authorize access. This is your primary target — ASH is the gateway to Aetna, Cigna, Anthem BCBS, and 50+ other plans.
Authorize any additional payers you're targeting
If you're applying to other payer panels directly (e.g., UnitedHealth, Humana, regional plans), authorize them here too. More authorizations = more potential panels. There is no downside to authorizing broadly.
Confirm authorizations are saved
CAQH shows a list of authorized organizations in your dashboard. Verify ASH appears in the list with an "Authorized" status.

6

Apply to the ASH Provider Network

American Specialty Health (ASH) manages complementary and integrative health networks for major insurers. Once your CAQH profile is complete and ASH is authorized, apply directly through the ASH portal. ASH pulls your data from CAQH — no re-entry required.

Timeline: 45–60 days once submitted
ASH credentialing takes time. Submit early, then use superbills for out-of-network reimbursement while you wait.
Navigate to Providers → Network → Join Network. This is the official ASH provider application portal.
Complete the ASH provider application
The application will reference your CAQH data. Have your CAQH ID ready. Confirm your practice location, specialty/modality, and insurance coverage details.
Submit and wait for credentialing review
ASH's credentialing team will verify your CAQH profile, ICONIC Board credential, state licenses, and malpractice coverage. Timeline: 45–60 days per practitioner once submitted.
Follow up if needed
If you haven't heard back after 60 days, contact ASH directly. See the contact directory below.

Superbills While You Wait

In-network credentialing takes time. While your ASH application is processing, you can still support client reimbursement through superbills — itemized receipts that clients submit to their insurance for out-of-network benefits.

Generate a Superbill

Use the ICONIC Board Insurance Toolkit to generate professional superbills, download letter templates, and access CPT code references.

Open Toolkit
HSA/FSA Accounts Work Too Many clients can use Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) to pay for holistic health sessions directly — no insurance required. Encourage clients to check their benefits.
