ICD-10 & CPT Code Reference
Commonly used codes for holistic health practitioners. Click any code to copy it.
Important: These codes are provided as a reference guide only. Code selection depends on the specific services provided and the client's condition. Always consult with a billing specialist or review official coding guidelines for your practice. Submitting incorrect codes may result in claim denial.
ICD-10 Diagnosis Codes
Diagnosis codes describing the patient's condition.
Help your clients understand how to use their tax-advantaged accounts for holistic health services.
What is an HSA / FSA?
A Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) are tax-advantaged accounts that allow individuals to set aside pre-tax dollars for eligible medical expenses. Under IRS Publication 502, a wide range of healthcare services qualify — including services from credentialed holistic health practitioners.
As an ICONIC Board credentialed practitioner, your services may qualify as eligible medical expenses when:
The service is for the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of a specific medical condition
You can provide a superbill with proper diagnosis (ICD-10) and procedure (CPT) codes
The service is not covered by the client's primary insurance plan
How to Use Your Superbill for HSA/FSA Claims
Walk your client through this simple process:
Step 1: Generate a superbill from this tool at the end of each session (or monthly)
Step 2: Give the PDF to your client
Step 3: Client submits the superbill to their HSA/FSA administrator (usually an online portal or mobile app)
Step 4: Administrator reviews and reimburses eligible expenses directly to the client
Most HSA/FSA administrators accept superbills with ICD-10 and CPT codes as proof of eligible medical expense.
Template Letter for Your Clients
Give this letter to clients who want to explain to their HSA/FSA administrator why holistic health services qualify for reimbursement.
Dear [HSA/FSA Administrator],
I am requesting reimbursement for holistic health services provided by my practitioner, [Practitioner Name], who holds the [CREDENTIAL] credential issued by the ICONIC Board of Holistic Health (iconic.health).
The ICONIC Board is a professional credentialing body for holistic health practitioners, establishing standards of practice, ethics, and continuing education comparable to those of other healthcare professional boards. Board credentials issued by ICONIC include:
• IBC-HHA™ — ICONIC Board Certified Holistic Health Associate
• IBC-HHP™ — ICONIC Board Certified Holistic Health Practitioner
• IBC-HHE™ — ICONIC Board Certified Holistic Health Educator
• IBC-HHD™ — ICONIC Board Certified Holistic Health Doctorate
Per IRS Publication 502, medical expenses eligible for HSA/FSA reimbursement include costs for diagnosis, cure, mitigation, treatment, or prevention of disease. The holistic health services I received address [DIAGNOSIS/CONDITION] as documented in the attached superbill, which includes appropriate ICD-10 diagnosis codes and CPT procedure codes.
I have attached a completed superbill from my practitioner for your review.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
[Account Number / Member ID]
Which CPT Codes Are Most Likely to Be Approved?
HSA/FSA administrators vary in their policies. The following code families are generally more accepted for reimbursement:
96156–96165 — Health & Behavior Assessment/Intervention codes (recognized by most major insurers)
99401–99404 — Preventive medicine counseling (widely accepted for wellness-focused practices)
97802–97804 — Medical Nutrition Therapy (strong acceptance for nutrition-focused practitioners)
Category III codes (0591T–0593T) — Acceptance varies; some plans reimburse, some do not
When in doubt, pair a specific ICD-10 diagnosis code (e.g., F41.1 for anxiety, Z73.0 for burnout) with your procedure code to strengthen the claim.
