Standard Review Period: 4–6 Weeks
Once the ICONIC Board receives a complete application — meaning all required documents have been submitted and verified — the standard review period is 4 to 6 weeks. During this time, a credentialing reviewer evaluates your training documentation, practice hours, peer references, and eligibility for the tier you have applied for.
The 4–6 week window covers the full review lifecycle: document verification, eligibility confirmation, committee review if required, and the issuance of your decision letter. Most straightforward applications at Tier I and Tier II resolve within the shorter end of that range. Applications at Tiers IV through VI, which involve doctoral verification or examination scheduling, may take the full six weeks or slightly longer in high-volume periods.
Important: The 4–6 week clock starts only when the board confirms your application is complete. If documents are missing, your application is placed on hold and the timeline does not begin until all materials are received.
What Affects Your Application Timeline
Several factors can extend or compress the time it takes to receive a decision. Understanding these in advance allows you to submit a stronger application and avoid unnecessary delays.
Factors that extend your timeline:
- Incomplete documentation. Missing transcripts, unsigned reference letters, or absent practice logs are the single most common cause of delay. Each time the board contacts you for a missing document and you submit it, the review clock resets from the date of receipt.
- Non-standard training providers. If you completed your training through a provider that is not listed in the ICONIC Board's recognized program directory, a supplementary review is required to verify equivalency. This adds 1–3 weeks to the standard timeline.
- High application volume. Certain months — particularly January, September, and the weeks surrounding major holistic health conferences — see elevated submission volumes. During peak periods, the review window may extend to 7–8 weeks.
- Examination scheduling (IBC-DHH™). The IBC-DHH™ credential requires a written and applied examination. Scheduling that examination adds time beyond the standard 4–6 week window. Contact the board when applying to understand current examination scheduling availability.
- Board nomination process (IBC-HHF™). The IBC-HHF™ is not applied for and has no standard review timeline. Nominations are reviewed annually during the board's formal recognition cycle.
Factors that speed up your timeline:
- Submitting a fully complete application on the first attempt — no follow-up requests from the board.
- Using recognized training providers whose records can be verified quickly.
- Submitting in non-peak months (February through August tend to have shorter queues).
- Providing clearly formatted practice logs that require minimal interpretation.
Rush Processing
Rush processing is available on a limited, case-by-case basis for applicants who have a documented professional need for expedited review. Qualifying circumstances include an imminent start date at a position that requires a specific credential, enrollment in a program with a credential prerequisite, or conference or publication obligations tied to a credential level.
To request rush processing:
- Contact the ICONIC Board by email before submitting your application.
- Explain your professional need and provide the date by which you require a decision.
- The board will confirm whether rush processing is available and quote any associated fee.
- Submit your complete application with all documents — rush processing does not proceed on incomplete files.
Note: Rush processing is not guaranteed and is offered at the board's discretion. Applications must still be complete before expedited review begins. Requesting rush processing does not in any way influence the outcome of the credentialing decision.
What to Do If You Have Not Heard Back
If six weeks have passed since you received the board's confirmation that your application was complete, and you have not received a decision or a request for further information, contact the ICONIC Board directly.
When reaching out, include:
- Your full name as submitted on the application.
- Your application reference number (included in your submission confirmation email).
- The credential tier you applied for.
- The date you received confirmation that your application was complete.
The board will confirm the current status of your file within 3 business days of your inquiry. Do not resubmit your application — duplicate submissions create processing conflicts and can extend your wait time further.
"A complete, well-prepared application is the single most powerful thing you can do to accelerate your timeline. Our review team processes applications in the order they become complete — not in the order they are submitted."
When Your Credential Becomes Active
Your credential becomes officially active on the date of the board's approval decision — not on the date you receive your certificate in the mail or the date you download your digital credential. The approval date is stamped on your official credential document and is the date from which your renewal cycle is calculated.
After approval, the following happens in sequence:
- Day 0 (Approval date): The board issues your decision letter and your credential becomes active. You may begin using your designation after your name immediately.
- Days 1–3: Your official digital credential document is emailed to the address on file. A physical certificate is mailed separately if requested.
- Days 5–7: Your name and credential appear in the ICONIC Board's public online directory.
- Within 2 weeks: Your verification number becomes searchable in the board's credential verification system, allowing employers and clients to confirm your credential status independently.
